CCB Shared Custody Calculator
Calculate each parent's Canada Child Benefit separately. CRA uses each household's own adjusted family net income, then pays 50% of that household's full-custody-equivalent amount.
Shared-custody details
AFNI is adjusted family net income from each parent's own household. CRA does not pool both households' income for shared-custody CCB.

What counts as shared custody
The calculator estimates the payment after CRA has classified the arrangement as shared custody. Eligibility depends on the child living with each parent on an approximately equal basis and each parent being primarily responsible during their time. It does not determine custody status.
Frequently asked questions
How does CRA calculate CCB for shared custody?
CRA calculates the full-custody-equivalent CCB separately for each parent using that parent’s adjusted family net income, then pays each parent 50% of their own result.
Can parents choose a different CCB split?
No. When CRA considers the arrangement shared custody, it uses the statutory 50% share and will not substitute a private 60/40 or 70/30 agreement.
Do both parents need to file tax returns?
Yes. Each parent and any spouse or common-law partner must file annually so CRA can calculate the household adjusted family net income.
