The dates are annual, the amount is quarterly

This trips people up when they compare deposits month to month. The 12 dates above are fixed for the whole of 2026, but the OAS pension is re-indexed to the Consumer Price Index in January, April, July, October — so a 2026 deposit can be larger than the one before it without anything changing in your file. Legislation also prevents the pension from dropping if the cost-of-living index falls. The figures on this page are the Q3 2026 (Jul–Sep 2026) amounts.

Same day as CPP, different rules

Every date on this page is also a Canada Pension Plan date in 2026, because Service Canada issues both from one payment run. Collecting both usually produces a single combined deposit — which is why the total rarely matches either program's own statement. OAS is funded from general revenue and depends on how long you have lived in Canada; CPP is funded by contributions off your paycheque. See CPP payment dates 2026 for the contribution side, or model the two together in the OAS + GIS calculator and the OAS clawback calculator.

Frequently asked questions

When is OAS paid in 2026?

Old Age Security is deposited 12 times in 2026: Jan 28, Feb 25, Mar 27, Apr 28, May 27, Jun 26, Jul 29, Aug 27, Sep 25, Oct 28, Nov 26, Dec 22. The same dates cover the OAS pension itself, the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance, and the Allowance for the Survivor.

How much is OAS per month in 2026?

For Q3 2026 (Jul–Sep 2026) the maximum is $751.97 a month if you are 65 to 74, and $827.17 if you are 75 or older — the 75+ rate has been permanently higher since 2022. These are quarterly figures: OAS is re-indexed to the Consumer Price Index every January, April, July, October, so the amount can change up to four times across the payment dates above.

Why did my OAS amount change partway through the year?

Because OAS is indexed quarterly, not annually. Every January, April, July, October payment can carry a cost-of-living increase, and by law the pension is never reduced when prices fall. CPP, by contrast, is reset once a year in January — which is why two payments arriving on the same day can move on different schedules.

Is OAS paid on the same day as CPP?

Yes. Service Canada runs both programs on one payment cycle, so all 12 2026 dates are shared with the Canada Pension Plan. Receiving both usually means a single combined deposit rather than two separate ones.

At what income does OAS get clawed back in 2026?

The OAS recovery tax starts once net world income passes $95,323 for 2026, taking back 15% of every dollar above it. The pension is fully recovered at about $152,062 for ages 65 to 74, or $157,923 for ages 75 and over. The clawback is collected as a monthly reduction to your payment, not as a bill at filing time.

Does GIS arrive separately from OAS?

No — the Guaranteed Income Supplement is paid with your OAS on the dates above, as one deposit. GIS is income-tested and non-taxable: for Q3 2026 (Jul–Sep 2026) a single senior can receive up to $1,123.17 a month, phasing out by roughly $22,800 of income excluding OAS.

Is tax withheld from OAS payments?

Only if you ask, or if the recovery tax applies. OAS is taxable income but Service Canada does not deduct tax by default, so you can request voluntary withholding through My Service Canada Account. If your income triggers the recovery tax, that portion is withheld automatically from each monthly payment.

What if I delayed starting OAS?

Deferring past 65 raises the pension by 0.6% for each month you wait, to a maximum of 36% at age 70. The payment dates are identical either way — only the amount differs. Our start-age calculator compares the crossover point.
