CCB Summary
How it works: The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment for eligible families with children under 18. The benefit is based on your adjusted family net income from the previous tax year. Families with income below $37,487 receive the full benefit. Above that threshold, the benefit is gradually reduced — first at a lower clawback rate up to $81,222, then at a higher rate beyond that. The maximum annual benefit is $7,997 per child under 6 and $6,748 per child aged 6–17 for the July 2025 – June 2026 benefit period.
About the Canada Child Benefit
The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment administered by the CRA to help eligible families with the cost of raising children under age 18. The benefit is income-tested, meaning higher family income results in a lower payment.
Two-phase reduction: CCB is reduced in two phases as adjusted family net income rises above $37,487. The reduction rate in each phase depends on how many children you have — families with more children have higher reduction rates but also receive a larger total benefit. Above a certain income threshold the benefit reaches zero.
Filing requirement: Both you and your spouse or common-law partner must file a tax return every year, even if you have no income. The CRA uses your prior-year net income to calculate payments for the July–June benefit year. Missing a filing can interrupt or stop your CCB payments.
