How much GIS will I get at my income?

For a single senior aged 65 to 74 with full OAS. "Other income" means everything except OAS and GIS: CPP, RRIF withdrawals, workplace pensions, interest. GIS falls by about 50% of each extra dollar, and faster in the lowest band where the top-up phases out.

How the amounts are set

  • All four benefits are indexed to the Consumer Price Index every January, April, July and October, and never go down.
  • The OAS pension is 10% higher from age 75, automatically.
  • GIS is based on the previous year's income, so the amount you receive now reflects your last tax return. A large RRIF withdrawal this year lowers next year's GIS; the drawdown order calculator shows the trade-off.
  • OAS is taxable and is recovered at 15% of net income above $95,323 (2026 income). See the clawback calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How much is OAS right now?
For Q4 2026 (Oct–Dec 2026), the maximum OAS pension is $762.50 a month at ages 65 to 74 and $838.75 a month at 75 and over. These are maximums for someone with full residence; a partial pension is a fraction of them.
How much is GIS for a single senior?
Up to $1,138.90 a month in Q4 2026 (Oct–Dec 2026), paid on top of OAS. It falls as your other income rises and stops at $23,112 of annual income, not counting OAS itself. The table on this page shows the GIS at each income step.
How often do OAS and GIS amounts change?
Every quarter, in January, April, July and October, to follow the Consumer Price Index. They are never reduced when prices fall. The next change lands with the January payment, so check back after Service Canada publishes the new table.
Is GIS taxable?
No. GIS, the Allowance and the Allowance for the Survivor are not taxable, though you still report them on your return. OAS is taxable and can be clawed back above the recovery-tax threshold of $95,323 for 2026 income.
