CPP & EI Maximums 2027 (Projected)
The official CRA/CEIC ceilings for 2027 aren't out yet. Here's exactly what's already locked in by law for CPP, CPP2 and EI, what's still pending, when to expect it, and an official actuarial projection in the meantime. CPP & CPP2: what's pending for 2027
The YMPE (Year's Maximum Pensionable Earnings) is wage-indexed under CPP Act s.18 — it's the confirmed 2026 YMPE multiplied by the ratio of average weekly wages for the 12 months ending June 30, 2026 versus the same window a year earlier, rounded down to the next $100. That wage data isn't finalized yet, so CRA hasn't published the 2027 figure.
| Parameter | 2026 (confirmed) | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| CPP1 employee rate | 5.95% | 5.95% (fixed by law) |
| Basic exemption | $3,500 | $3,500 (unchanged since 1996) |
| YMPE | $74,600 | Pending — ~Nov 2026 (OCA est. $75,600) |
| CPP2 employee rate | 4.00% | 4.00% (fixed by law) |
| YAMPE | $85,000 | Pending — ~Nov 2026 (OCA est. $86,100) |
Self-employed workers pay both the employee and employer share (2x the employee rate on each tier) once the 2027 YMPE/YAMPE are confirmed — same convention as the CPP & EI Calculator and CPP2 Calculator.
EI: what's pending for 2027
Two separate numbers, two separate mechanisms. The Maximum Insurable Earnings (MIE) is wage-indexed under EIA s.4, similar in spirit to the YMPE but measured over the 12 months ending April 30. The premium rate is set annually by the CEIC under EIA s.66 to balance the EI Operating Account, capped at a +/-0.05 percentage-point move from the prior year.
| Parameter | 2026 (confirmed) | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Employee premium rate | 1.63% | Pending — by Sep 14, 2026 (1.58%-1.68% by law) |
| Maximum Insurable Earnings (MIE) | $68,900 | Pending — ~Nov 2026 |
| Employer premium multiple | 1.4x | 1.4x (fixed by law) |
| Quebec employee rate | 1.30% | Pending — ~Sep 2026 |

Frequently asked questions
What is the CPP maximum for 2027?
Not officially set yet. The 2027 YMPE (Year's Maximum Pensionable Earnings) is wage-indexed and CRA typically confirms it around November 2026 — the confirmed 2026 YMPE is $74,600. What IS already fixed by law for 2027: the CPP1 employee rate stays at 5.95% and the CPP2 rate at 4.00% (both unchanged since their phase-in completed), and the YAMPE will equal 113.99999999999999% of whatever the 2027 YMPE turns out to be.
What is the EI maximum for 2027?
Also not set yet. By law (Employment Insurance Act s.66(9)) the Canada Employment Insurance Commission (CEIC) must set the 2027 premium rate on or before September 14, 2026, and it can move at most +/-0.05 percentage points from the 2026 rate of 1.63% — so the 2027 rate will land between 1.58% and 1.68%. The Maximum Insurable Earnings (MIE) is separately wage-indexed and confirmed later; the 2026 MIE is $68,900.
Why can't the 2027 YMPE be calculated in advance?
The Canada Pension Plan Act sets the YMPE by a fixed formula (s.18) — the prior year's YMPE multiplied by the ratio of average weekly wages for the 12 months ending June 30 of the current year versus the same period a year earlier, rounded down to the next $100 — but the underlying Statistics Canada wage data for that window is not fully available and finalized until later in the year, which is why CRA does not publish the following year's YMPE until around November.
What is the YAMPE for 2027?
Whatever 113.99999999999999% of the 2027 YMPE works out to, rounded down to the next $100 — that ratio is fixed by CPP Act s.18.1(1)(b) for "2025 and each subsequent year," so once the YMPE is confirmed, the YAMPE follows automatically with no separate announcement needed.
Is there any official projection for the 2027 figures?
Yes, with a caveat. OSFI's Office of the Chief Actuary publishes long-range CPP funding projections in its periodic Actuarial Report. The 32nd Actuarial Report (Revised) projects a 2027 YMPE of $75,600 and YAMPE of $86,100 — but this is a smoothed, long-term funding assumption (0.8% real wage growth plus inflation), not a short-term forecast: the same report's own 2026 YMPE assumption ($73,400) came in $1,200 BELOW the actual confirmed 2026 figure of $74,600. Treat the actuarial figures as directional, not as the number CRA will announce.
When will the 2027 figures be confirmed?
The EI premium rate is legally required by September 14, 2026 (EIA s.66(9)). CPP figures (YMPE, YAMPE) and the EI Maximum Insurable Earnings have no statutory deadline but have historically been published around November 1 each year for the following year — the 2026 figures were confirmed on that schedule. This page will be updated with the real numbers as soon as they land.
